Agrofresh

AGROFRESH · UGANDA

Agrofresh makes Uganda's exporters provable.

Buyers discount Ugandan coffee, cocoa and sesame because they cannot verify a shipment before it arrives. Membership provides the evidence: mapped plots, weights that add up, compliance checked before the container is sealed, and a link the buyer opens without asking you for documents.

Signing up starts an application. Applications are reviewed by a person.

Three situations these records are for.

The buyer asks for the map.

An EU roaster requires the plot boundary for every farm in a container. A collection book and a list of farmer names does not meet that requirement. The order goes to the supplier who can produce the boundaries.

The bank asks for accounts.

A signed contract is not collateral on its own. Banks ask for three years of audited books. Trading history held in notebooks and messages does not substitute for them.

The moisture readings disagree.

Moisture measured at the store and at the destination port can differ by several points. Without a reading both sides accept, the buyer's figure settles it.

What Agrofresh does, and what it does not.

Agrofresh is a private export promoter. It is paid a flat membership fee by exporters. It takes no commission, no brokerage, and no title to crop.

What we do

  • Run a verified exporter network buyers can filter and trust.
  • Put live buyer requirements in front of you before you commit a shilling.
  • Give you the systems the largest exporters already have.
  • Check your compliance against six standards before you ship.
  • Train your team, and certify them.
  • Turn your trading history into something a bank can read.

What we don't do

  • Buy your crop.
  • Broker your deal, or take a commission on it.
  • Own your farmers, your buyers, or your records. Those stay yours.
  • Promise you a buyer. We can make you findable and credible. We cannot make someone purchase.

What membership includes.

01

Buyer requirements, before you commit

Every active buyer requirement in one feed: commodity, grade, volume, price basis, delivery window, origin. Filter it to what you grow, then model it against your own farmgate, transport, drying and storage costs to see the margin before you answer.

02

A shipment link your buyer opens

Publish a shipment and send one link. It opens on the plots the crop grew on, the deliveries you bought, the batch it was dried in, the lot, the container and its seal, with the certificate behind each step. No document pack is assembled.

03

Compliance checked before the container is sealed

Six standards, seven checks, run against records you already keep in the system. Failures surface while the crop is still in your store rather than at an importer's compliance desk.

A trading record banks can read

Orders completed, on-time rate, quality over time, disputes, warehouse receipts, and the depth of your farmer network. It accumulates each season, and a finance application fills itself from it.

Compliance

The seven checks.

The weights add up
Plausible for the land area
Kept separate from other farms' produce
Every delivery tied to a farm plot
Every plot mapped
No deforestation found
Land documents on file

Each check returns pass, pending, or fail. Pending is shown as pending.

Checked against

  • EU Deforestation Regulation
  • UK Environment Act (Sch. 17)
  • Rainforest Alliance 2020
  • EU Organic (2018/848)
  • Single origin
  • Volume audit

The shipment link

Publishing a shipment.

You publish the shipment and send one link. It opens on the plots the crop grew on, the deliveries you bought, the batch it was dried in, the lot, the container and its seal, with the certificate behind each step. It prints, and it carries a QR code for the file that travels with the container.

The page is a snapshot. It is dated, and it names who published it. If your records change afterwards, the page says so rather than showing the old numbers. If one of the checks later fails, the link suspends itself.

What compounds

What accumulates over three seasons.

  1. Season one

You register your farmers, map their plots, and record what you buy at the farm gate. Field agents do most of it on a phone. By the first shipment, a plot boundary exists for every farm you buy from.

  2. Season two

The plots are already mapped, so compliance takes a morning rather than a month. Buyers filtering the directory by origin and certification can find you, and a delivery record exists across a full season.

  3. Season three

A trading record exists: completed orders, on-time rate, quality over time, and warehouse receipts on file. It is the record a bank underwrites, and it is exportable whether or not you stay with us.

Courses for members and their staff.

Courses cover grading standards, trade finance — warehouse receipts, letters of credit, forward contracts — and what the EU, the UK, the UAE and China require at the border. Completed courses show as certificates on your profile, where buyers see them.

Who this is for

Who can apply.

You'll fit if you are

  • An exporter already shipping, or ready to ship your first container this season.
  • An aggregator with a farmer network you buy from directly.
  • A cooperative selling on behalf of members.
  • A processor adding value before export.

You won't, yet, if you are

  • An individual farmer with no aggregator — join through one, and ask us who is near you.
  • Trading without a registered business. We check the number against the register.
  • Looking only for a buyer list. We will not sell you one, and it would not work.

Before you apply

The eight requirements.

01

Contact details

A working email or phone number, so the reviewer can reach you.

02

Region or city

Buyers filter by origin, and it anchors your directory listing.

03

Business registration number

We check it against the national companies register.

04

Business description

In your own words: what you supply, and at what scale.

05

Annual capacity for every commodity you list

Not one number for the whole business — a buyer sourcing sesame learns nothing from your coffee volume.

06

At least one commodity

It decides which buyer requirements reach you at all.

07

At least one incoterm

Tells a buyer on what delivery terms you can quote.

08

At least one valid compliance certificate

Unexpired. Buyers will not take offers without proof, so neither will we.

No certificate yet? Apply anyway and say so. Getting your first one is a thing we help with — it is not a thing we hold against you.
